Raichak: a riverside fort and a ferry across the Hooghly
Raichak sits on the Hooghly seven kilometres beyond Diamond Harbour, where an old riverside fort has become a hotel and a ferry crosses to Kukrahati in East Medinipur. It is about 55 km from central Kolkata, so it works both as a lunch and sunset trip and as a one night stay when you want water outside the window without driving to the sea.

What you actually see there
The Kukrahati ferry
A working crossing to the Haldia side, used by locals with bikes and goods. A short ride on it is the best twenty rupees you will spend here.
Diamond Harbour on the way
Seven kilometres back up the road, with the fort ruins and the jetty. Almost everyone does both in the same trip.
How to reach
Diamond Harbour Road to Diamond Harbour, then seven kilometres on to Raichak: 55 km from central Kolkata, 78 km from Barrackpore, and about two and a half hours from the airport. There is no train to Raichak itself, so the last stretch is by road in any case.
